WHEREAS, in East Rockingham High School's inaugural year, the girls tennis team won the 2011 Virginia High School League (VHSL) Group A state competition, gaining the historic honor of becoming the first team to give the school a state championship trophy; and WHEREAS, the East Rockingham High School girls tennis team defeated a strong competitor, J.J. Kelly High School, 5–2, to cap a stellar first year of varsity play; the Eagles were undefeated, boasting an outstanding 18–0 season; and WHEREAS, in addition to the state team trophy, East Rockingham junior Allison Michael won the 2011 VHSL Group A girls singles championship, defeating Taylor Evans of Gate City High School; she then joined sophomore Sarah Cameron to win the state Group A girls doubles title; and WHEREAS, the success of the East Rockingham High School girls tennis team is due to the hard work and dedication of each player; in addition to Allison Michael and Sarah Cameron, the other team members are Clara Churchill, Kamilla Voznuk, Stacie Bailey, Grace Zaylor, and Taylor Harris; and WHEREAS, the East Rockingham High School girls tennis team is expertly coached by Alissa Michael and Kayla Koslow, who dedicated many hours to guiding and mentoring the team, always focusing on developing and improving the players' skills; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the East Rockingham High School girls tennis team for winning the 2011 Virginia High School League Group A state competition; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Alissa Michael, head coach of the East Rockingham High School girls tennis team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and congratulations on its championship performance and best wishes for the future. |
