WHEREAS, Josh and Barbara Shifflett have provided wise spiritual counsel and served communities in need for 47 years; and
WHEREAS, Josh Shifflett was saved nearly 48 years ago and tells the story that God called him to the ministry and had an eight-hour conversation with him, wherein he said no for seven hours, then said yes on the eighth hour; and
WHEREAS, since that conversation, Josh Shifflett has been preaching the Gospel and a message of salvation throughout the Shenandoah Valley; and
WHEREAS, aside from his decision to dedicate his life to God, Josh Shifflett states his second greatest joy in life was taking Barbara Shifflett as his beautiful bride; the couple have worked together in ministry for decades and proudly raised several children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Josh Shifflett previously drove a youth church bus for over 25 years; and
WHEREAS, Josh Shifflett was selected as interim pastor of Stanardsville Baptist Church in August 2022, then became the senior pastor of Stanardsville Baptist Church in April 2023; and
WHEREAS, as an evangelist, Josh Shifflett saved souls in Guyana and Haiti and learned from great men in the ministry like the late Don McCann; and
WHEREAS, as a proud mountain man with roots in Shifflett Holler, Josh Shifflett's family was one of the nearly 500 families who were forced off their land to create the Shenandoah National Park; and
WHEREAS, Josh Shifflett proudly tells his siblings that he was their grandma's favorite and an authentic aficionado on biscuits, gravy, and banana pudding; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Josh and Barbara Shifflett, senior pastor and first lady of Stanardsville Baptist Church, for their 47 years of service in the ministry in the Commonwealth and abroad; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Josh and Barbara Shifflett as an expression of the General Assembly's respect and admiration for their work in soul winning and leading people to Jesus Christ.
