SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 86
Commending Michael Charles Huntley II.

WHEREAS, Michael Charles Huntley II, an accomplished singer-songwriter from Fredericksburg known professionally as Huntley, was named the winner of season 24 of NBC's talent competition television series The Voice on December 19, 2023; and

WHEREAS, born in Spring Hill, Florida, Michael Huntley moved to Spotsylvania County in 2004 and graduated from Spotsylvania High School in 2008, during which time he began singing, playing guitar and piano, and recording music; and

WHEREAS, after high school, Michael Huntley moved to Orlando to attend Full Sail University, where he studied music engineering and production before pursuing a full-time music career in Nashville for some time around 2010; and

WHEREAS, Michael Huntley ultimately returned to Fredericksburg and began playing shows at various venues all over the Commonwealth, as well as in Washington, D.C., and the Jersey Shore; and

WHEREAS, in 2011, Michael Huntley won a local Fredericksburg Idol contest and continued to build his fan base by consistently performing throughout the region; and

WHEREAS, motivated by the birth of his daughter in 2016, Michael Huntley redoubled his efforts as a professional musician, forming the band Lucys Letdown and taking solo gigs at weddings and private events; and

WHEREAS, shortly after the birth of his son, Michael Huntley started a local recording studio to support the creative endeavors of other artists in the Fredericksburg area while also beginning to book shows for local talent; and

WHEREAS, several months ago, Michael Huntley was asked by an NBC talent scout to audition for the network's hit show The Voice; he would soon find himself performing on television before an audience of millions; and

WHEREAS, with acclaimed singer-songwriter Niall Horan as his coach, Michael Huntley dominated every performance on the show, receiving accolades from established and iconic musicians, creating a dedicated fan base, and winning a recording contract with Universal Music Group along the way; and

WHEREAS, through his steadfast determination, Michael Huntley has achieved the goals he began pursuing nearly two decades ago, earning the praise and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Michael Charles Huntley II hereby be commended for winning season 24 of The Voice; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Michael Charles Huntley II as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's high regard for his achievement and best wishes for his continued success.
