HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 44

Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 16-05S/20-005.47 () (16A123), (39.08844, -78.89069) locally known as ASHTON WOODS BRIDGE, carrying CR 055/20 over US 48X in Hardy County, the "U. S. Army SP4 Charles W. Wolfe Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, Charles W. Wolfe was born on January 2, 1920, the son of Harry W. Wolfe and Eva Olivia Bean, in Bean's Settlement, Hardy County, West Virginia, which was located on what is now North River Road; he lived there all his life and raised his family there; and

Whereas, U. S. Army SP4 Charles W. Wolfe was a corporal in the U. S. Army from August 4th, 1942, until November 26th 1946 during World War II: while fighting in France he was captured by the Germans; he was held captive from January until May 1945.; and

Whereas, U. S. Army SP4 Charles W. Wolfe was awarded numerous metals for his service in the U. S. Army; and

Whereas, U. S. Army SP4 Charles W. Wolfe was married to Betty Branson, and they had two sons, Richard Wolfe and Brian Wolfe; and

Whereas, U. S. Army SP4 Charles W. Wolfe worked as an inspector for the West Virginia Department of Agriculture in Moorefield until his death; he traveled this road every day going to and from work; and

Whereas, This bridge is located at the entrance of White Oak Crossing where his son, Richard Wolfe, now resides; and

Whereas,; U. S. Army SP4 Charles W. Wolfe passed away on March 23, 1981; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate U. S. Army SP4 Charles W Wolfe and his contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number16-05S/20-005.47 () (16A123), (39.08844, -78.89069) locally known as ASHTON WOODS BRIDGE, carrying CR 055/20 over US 48X in Hardy County, the "U. S. Army SP4 Charles W. Wolfe Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U. S. Army SP4 Charles W. Wolfe Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
