SENATE RESOLUTION 19

Designating January 31, 2023, as West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians’ Day at the Legislature.
Whereas, Family physicians are highly trained specialists focused on the whole person; their physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being, as well as cultural, linguistic, and social needs; and
Whereas, Family physicians are grounded in mutually beneficial partnerships among clinicians, staff, individuals, and their families as equal members of the care team. Care delivery is customized based on individual and family strengths, preferences, values, goals, and experiences using strategies such as care planning and shared decision-making; and
Whereas, Research has shown the collective care provided by family physicians improves the overall health of the population and leads to better health care outcomes at lower cost; and
Whereas, The West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians’ Day is an opportunity to celebrate together with family physicians across West Virginia. It is important they lead the delivery of relationship-based, comprehensive, and compassionate care in their community; and
Whereas, The West Virginia Senate designates January 31, 2023, as West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians’ Day at the Legislature; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to Matthew Walker on behalf of West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians.
