FISCAL NOTE

Senate Bill 137 as introduced changes the name of the Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs to the Alabama Office of Minority Affairs. This bill would transfer all employees, without loss of compensation or benefits, and allow the Director to establish employee compensation, in amounts not to exceed comparable Merit System classifications, which could increase the obligations of the Office by an undetermined amount dependent upon the compensation established for each employee. In addition, this bill allows the Director to hire necessary employees, based on the State Merit System, which could further increase the obligations of the Office by an undetermined amount dependent upon the number of additional employees hired and the compensation set for each additional employee.
