AN ACT

 

amending title 38, chapter 2, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 38‑202; relating to peace officers.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 38, chapter 2, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 38‑202, to read:

START_STATUTE38‑202.  Peace officers; employment; United States citizenship required

A.  Notwithstanding any other state law and to the extent permitted by federal law, any person who applies for a peace officer position must be a citizen of the United States. An applicant shall provide proof of United States citizenship as part of the employment application.

B.  A public officer may not offer an applicant a peace officer position if the applicant cannot provide proof of united states citizenship. END_STATUTE
