AN ACT
appropriating monies to the secretary of state.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. Appropriation; secretary of state; county grants for election systems and database security; exemption
A. The sum of $2,000,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2017-2018 to the secretary of state for providing grants to counties for the following purposes:
1. Election systems security improvements.
2. Security improvements for voter registration databases and other voter information.
B. From the monies appropriated pursuant to subsection A of this section, the secretary of state may retain up to $500,000 for use by the secretary of state solely for election systems security improvements and security improvements for voter registration databases and other voter information.
C. The appropriation made in subsection A of this section is exempt from the provisions of section 35-190, Arizona Revised Statutes, relating to lapsing of appropriations.
