AN ACT

 

amending title 40, chapter 2, article 1, arizona revised statutes, by adding section 40-207; relating to public service corporations.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Title 40, chapter 2, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 40-207, to read:

START_STATUTE40-207. Electric generation plant; modifications; definitions

A. The commission shall ensure that any changes to maintain or improve an electric power grid:

1. Are capable of producing enough electricity to meet the demand for electric service in the summer and winter months.

2. Contain a generation resource mix that avoids both:

(a) Nonmomentary electric service interruptions that are unrelated to severe weather conditions.

(b) power quality incidents. 

B. On the retirement of an electric generation plant, the commission shall ensure that a replacement electric generation plant is capable of providing equally dispatchable load following generation.

C. For the purposes of this section:

1. "Dispatchable load following generation" means a power source that quickly adjusts to fluctuations in the demand for electricity. 

2. "Generation resource mix" means the combination of different energy sources that are used to produce electricity in a specific region and the relative contributions of each source, including coal, natural gas, solar, wind and nuclear power. END_STATUTE
