AN ACT

 

Establishing the eating disorders study committee.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Eating disorders study committee; duties; report; delayed repeal

A.  The eating disorders study committee is established consisting of the following members:

1.  Two members of the senate who are appointed by the president of the senate and who are members of different political parties.  The president of the senate shall designate one of these members to serve as cochairperson of the committee.

2.  Two members of the house of representatives who are appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives and who are members of different political parties.  The speaker of the house of representatives shall designate one of these members to serve as cochairperson of the committee.

3.  The director of the department of health services or the director's designee.

4.  One member who represents the insurance industry and who is appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives.

5.  Two health care professionals with experience treating individuals with an eating disorder, one of whom is appointed by the president of the senate and one of whom is appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives.

6.  One member of the public whose life has been impacted by an eating disorder and who is appointed by the president of the senate.

B.  Committee members are not eligible to receive compensation or reimbursement of expenses.

C.  The committee shall:

1.  Identify and analyze how many individuals in this state suffer from eating disorders, including demographic information regarding age, gender, race and ethnicity.

2.  Study the economic impact of eating disorders in this state.

3.  Review the potential health impacts and treatment options for an individual with an eating disorder.

4.  Examine and review issues pertaining to insurance coverage for the treatment of eating disorders in this state.

D.  The committee may use the services and expertise of the staff and facilities of the senate and the house of representatives.

E.  The committee shall submit a written report of its findings and recommendations on or before September 1, 2016 to the governor, the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives and shall provide a copy of this report to the secretary of state.

F.  This section is repealed from and after December 31, 2016.
