AN ACT

 

Amending title 36, chapter 1, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 36-113; making an appropriation; relating to the department of health services.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 36, chapter 1, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 36-113, to read:

START_STATUTE36-113.  Diabetes prevention protocols; Native American youth; report; definitions

A.  The department shall coordinate with tribal public health programs and the Indian health service of the United States department of health and human services to develop protocols to prevent the occurrence of diabetes among Native American residents of this state who are under nineteen years of age.

B.  The department shall provide support to tribal public health programs to implement the protocols developed pursuant to subsection A of this section.

C.  The department shall submit a written report on the progress of the diabetes prevention protocols to the governor, the speaker of the house of representatives and the president of the senate on or before November 15, 2015 and at least every second year following the first report.

D.  For the purposes of this section:

1.  "Native American" means a person who is a member of a tribe located in this state.

2.  "Tribe" means a federally recognized tribal government. END_STATUTE

Sec. 2.  Appropriation; diabetes prevention protocols; exemption

A.  The sum of $250,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2014-2015 to the department of health services for the purposes provided in this act.

B.  The appropriation made in subsection A of this section is exempt from the provisions of section 35-190, Arizona Revised Statutes, relating to lapsing of appropriations.
