A RESOLUTION
honoring current and former native american members of the arizona legislature.

Whereas, Native American members of the Arizona Legislature, both past and present, have a proud and distinguished record of service to their state; and
Whereas, over the years Native American legislators, representing numerous tribal affiliations, diverse professional and occupational backgrounds and various regions of the state, have attained the highest ideals of public service through their tenures in the Legislature; and
Whereas, Native Americans who have served in the Arizona House of Representatives include Lloyd L. House, Navajo/Oneida, 1967-1968; Daniel Peaches, Navajo, 1975-1984; Benjamin Hanley, Navajo, 1973-1998; Jack C. Jackson, Sr., Navajo, 1985-1998; Sally Ann Trujillo Gonzales, Pasqua Yaqui, 1997‑2000; Debora Lynn Norris, Navajo/Tohono O'odham, 1997-2002; Jack Jackson, Jr., Navajo, 2003-2004; Sylvia Laughter, Navajo, 1999-2004; Albert Tom, Navajo, 2001-2002 and 2005-2008; and Chris Deschene, Navajo, 2009-2010. Those who have served in the Arizona Senate are Arthur J. Hubbard, Sr., Navajo/Tohono O'odham, 1973-1984; Luis A. Gonzales, Pasqua Yaqui, 1979-1986; James Henderson, Jr., Navajo, 1985-1998; Jack C. Jackson, Sr., Navajo, 1999‑2003; and Albert Hale, Navajo, 2004-2010; and
Whereas, Native Americans currently serving in the Legislature are Representatives Sally Ann Gonzales and Albert Hale and Senator Jack Jackson, Jr.; and
Whereas, these dedicated individuals have worked diligently to not only better the lives of their constituents and tribal peers, but to forge a strong future for Arizona. It is important that we acknowledge and honor these outstanding public servants and the vital role they have played in our state's government and heritage.
Therefore
Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Arizona:
That the Senate of the State of Arizona honor the current and former Native American members of the Arizona Legislature for their tremendous service and commitment to their tribes, communities and state.
