   An act to amend Section 1700.47 of the Labor Code, relating to
employment.



	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   AB 1364, as amended, Campos. Employment:  discrimination
  licensed talent agencies: representation  .
   Existing law prohibits a talent agency from 
discriminating against an   refusing to represent any
 artist based upon specified criteria   the
artist's race, color, creed, sex, national origin, religion, or
handicap  . 
   Existing law, the California Fair Employment and Housing Act,
protects and safeguards the right and opportunity of all persons to
seek, obtain, and hold employment without discrimination based upon
race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, physical
disability, mental disability, medical condition, marital status,
sex, age, or sexual orientation. 
   This bill would  expand the list of criteria based upon
which a talent agency may not discriminate against an artist to
include those identified in the California Fair Employment and
Housing Act   , instead, pr   ohibit a talent
agency from refusing to represent any   artist based upon
the artist's sex, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin,
disability, marital status, or sexual orientation  .
   Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes.
State-mandated local program: no.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   SECTION 1.    Section 1700.47 of the   Labor
Code   is amended to read: 
   1700.47.  It shall be unlawful for any licensee to refuse to
represent any artist on account of that artist's  sex, 
race, color,  creed, sex, national origin, 
religion,  or handicap   ancestry, national
origin, disability, marital status, or sexual orientation  .

  SECTION 1.    Section 1700.47 of the Labor Code is
amended to read:
   1700.47.  It shall be unlawful for any licensee to discriminate
against an artist on the basis of race, religious creed, color,
national origin, ancestry, physical disability, mental disability,
medical condition, marital status, sex, age, or sexual orientation,
or any other form of discrimination prohibited under Chapter 3
(commencing with Section 12920) of Part 2.8 of Division 3 of Title 2
of the Government Code.
