CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE— 2023–2024 REGULAR SESSION

Assembly Bill
No. 1717

Introduced by Assembly Member Muratsuchi

February 17, 2023

An act to amend Section 345 of the Public Utilities Code, relating to electricity.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

AB 1717, as introduced, Muratsuchi. Independent System Operator.
Existing law establishes an Independent System Operator (ISO) as a nonprofit public benefit corporation, and requires the ISO to ensure the efficient use and reliable operation of the electrical transmission grid consistent with the achievement of planning and operating reserve criteria, as specified.
This bill would make nonsubstantive changes to that requirement.
Vote: MAJORITY   Appropriation: NO   Fiscal Committee: NO   Local Program: NO

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.

Section 345 of the Public Utilities Code is amended to read:

345.
The Independent System Operator shall ensure the efficient use and reliable operation of the transmission grid consistent with the achievement of planning and operating reserve criteria that are no less stringent than those established by the Western Electricity Coordinating Council and the North American Electric Reliability Council.
