An act to amend Section 124840 of the Health and Safety Code, relating to health care facilities.

AB 1995, as introduced, Essayli. Health care facilities: small and rural hospitals.
Under existing law, the State Department of Public Health issues licenses for and regulates health facilities, including small and rural hospitals, as defined. Under existing law, a hospital that meets the definition of a small and rural hospital may be eligible for special programs, including business assistance, regulatory relief, and increased Medi-Cal reimbursement.
This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to the definition of small and rural hospital.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 Section 124840 of the Health and Safety Code is amended to read:

124840.
 “Small and rural hospital” means an acute care hospital that meets either of the following criteria:
(a) Meets the criteria for designation within peer group six or eight, as defined in the report entitled Hospital Peer Grouping for Efficiency Comparison, dated December 20, 1982.
(b) Meets the criteria for designation within peer group five or seven and seven, has no more than 76 acute care beds beds, and is located in an incorporated place or census designated place of 15,000 or less population according to the 1980 federal census.
