BILL NUMBER: AB 214 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Beth Gaines FEBRUARY 2, 2015 An act to amend Section 29632 of the Government Code, relating to local government. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 214, as introduced, Beth Gaines. County charges: victims of crime. Existing law authorizes the legislative body of a county or city to establish a program that provides reimbursement to innocent residents whose property is injured as a consequence of the actions of a peace officer detecting crime or apprehending or arresting a person, or the actions of a person resisting or avoiding arrest. This bill would make a nonsubstantive change to that provision. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 29632 of the Government Code is amended to read: 29632. The legislative body of a county or of a city may establish a programwhichthat provides for the reimbursement of any innocent resident of the county or city, as the case may be, whose property is or has been at any time subsequent to a date designated by the legislative body injured or destroyed as the consequence of: (a) An act of a peace officer in the detection of crime or the apprehension or arrest of any person for any public offense; or (b) An act of a person in resisting or avoiding arrest.
