BILL NUMBER: AB 2454 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Pan FEBRUARY 24, 2012 An act to add Section 8.5 to the Penal Code, relating to law enforcement. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 2454, as introduced, Pan. Law enforcement: electronic reports. Existing law authorizes various reports, including reporting missing persons, to be submitted to local law enforcement agencies by mail. This bill would authorize, at the discretion of the local law enforcement agency, a report that is required or authorized by the Penal Code, which is required to be submitted to a local law enforcement agency by mail, to be submitted by a secure electronic mail message. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 8.5 is added to the Penal Code, to read: 8.5. A report that is required or authorized by this code, which is required to be submitted to a local law enforcement agency by mail, may, at the discretion of the local law enforcement agency, be submitted by a secure electronic mail message.
