BILL NUMBER: AB 393 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Yamada FEBRUARY 23, 2009 An act to amend Section 1793.05 of the Civil Code, relating to vehicle warranties. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 393, as introduced, Yamada. Vehicle warranties: disabled rights. Existing law requires any vehicle manufacturer who alters new vehicles into housecars to, in addition to any new product warranty, assume any warranty responsibility of the original vehicle manufacturer for any and all components of the finished product that are, by virtue of any act of the alterer, no longer covered by the warranty issued by the original vehicle manufacturer. This bill would extend that warranty requirement to any vehicle manufacturer who modifies new vehicles into vehicles useable by persons with disabilities. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 1793.05 of the Civil Code is amended to read: 1793.05. Vehicle manufacturers who alter new vehicles into housecars or modify new vehicles for the purpose of making those vehicles useable by persons with disabilities shall, in addition to any new product warranty, assume any warranty responsibility of the original vehicle manufacturer for any and all components of the finished productwhichthat are, by virtue of any act of the alterer, no longer covered by the warranty issued by the original vehicle manufacturer.
