BILL NUMBER: AB 602 AMENDED BILL TEXT AMENDED IN ASSEMBLY APRIL 14, 2011 AMENDED IN ASSEMBLY MARCH 25, 2011 INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Olsen FEBRUARY 16, 2011 An act to add Section 65588.5 to the Government Code, relating to local government. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 602, as amended, Olsen. Local government: housing. Existing law requires each local government, as defined, to review the housing element of the local government's general plan as frequently as appropriate, generally every 5 years, except as specified. This bill would, commencing January 1, 2012, until January 1, 2017, authorizeanya local government that has received a confirmation of compliance from the Department of Housing and Community Development, and that updates its housing element not more than every 5 years, to delay until the next scheduled revision date a revision to that local government' s housing element, as specified. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 65588.5 is added to the Government Code, to read: 65588.5. Notwithstanding Section 65588, commencing January 1, 2012, until January 1, 2017, a local government that has received confirmation of compliance from the department may delay until the next scheduled revision date, pursuant to subdivision (e) of Section 65588, a revision to that local government's housing element. This section shall only apply to a local government that updates its housing element not more than every five years pursuant to Section 65588.
