Relative to the Police Officer Tyler “Ty” Lenehan Memorial Highway.

ACR 194, Cooper. Police Officer Tyler “Ty” Lenehan Memorial Highway.
This measure would designate a specified portion of State Route 99 as the Police Officer Tyler “Ty” Lenehan Memorial Highway. The measure would request that the Department of Transportation determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, erect those signs.

WHEREAS, Tyler “Ty” Lenehan was born to Randy and Debby Lenehan in the City of Provo, Utah, on July 16, 1977; and
WHEREAS, Lenehan graduated from Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills; and
WHEREAS, After graduation, Lenehan became an aircraft structural maintenance journeyman in the United States Air Force; and
WHEREAS, Lenehan later married the love of his life, Jessica Hartstock, and was the proud father of two children, Austin and Sydney; and
WHEREAS, Lenehan proudly worked with his father providing electrical services; and
WHEREAS, Lenehan graduated from the police academy in 2012 though the Sacramento Regional Public Safety Training Center, American River College; and
WHEREAS, Lenehan became a reserve police officer with the Citrus Heights Police Department in 2012; and
WHEREAS, Lenehan later worked at the Galt Police Department from 2014 to 2016 where he became a motor officer; and
WHEREAS, Lenehan then worked at the Elk Grove Police Department beginning in 2016, where he started working patrol and ultimately become a motor officer in 2020; and
WHEREAS, Outside of his professional life, Lenehan was involved with Gold Country Baptist Church in Shingle Springs, and loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, camping, and barbecuing; and
WHEREAS, Lenehan had a vibrant personality that brightened up every person he met in his professional and personal life; and
WHEREAS, Lenehan’s watch ended while on duty January 21, 2022, when he sustained fatal injuries as the result of being hit on State Highway 99 near 12th Avenue in the City of Sacramento by a drunk driver who was driving in the wrong direction; and
WHEREAS, At the request of the City of Elk Grove, its officials, employees, and residents, a freeway dedication shall be made in memory of Police Officer Tyler “Ty” Lenehan; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby designates the portion of State Route 99 between the Sheldon Road Overcrossing BR 24-0374 at postmile 14.869 and Grant Line Road at postmile 10.070 as the Police Officer Tyler “Ty” Lenehan Memorial Highway; and be it further
Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested to determine the cost of appropriate signs consistent with the signing requirements for the state highway system showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover that cost, to erect those signs; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the Department of Transportation and to the author for appropriate distribution.
