   Relative to the CHP Officer Joseph P. Sanders Memorial Highway.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   ACR 94, Charles Calderon. CHP Officer Joseph P. Sanders Memorial
Highway.
   This measure would designate specified portions of State Highway
Route 60 and corresponding on ramps and off ramps as the CHP Officer
Joseph P. Sanders Memorial Highway.



   WHEREAS, California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Joseph P. Sanders
was born March 7, 1979, to Wayne and Beverly Sanders in Sacramento,
California; and
   WHEREAS, Officer Sanders had two sisters, Angela Sanders-Parker
and ReBecca Heinrich; and
   WHEREAS, Officer Sanders attended Galt High School in Galt,
California, and graduated in June 1997. Upon graduation from high
school, Officer Sanders joined the United States Marine Corps where
he attained the rank of sergeant; and
   WHEREAS, Officer Sanders was selected for the position of cadet
and entered the CHP Academy on June 18, 2007. Upon graduation from
the CHP Academy on December 21, 2007, Officer Sanders, badge number
18781, was assigned to the Santa Fe Springs area office where he
served the State of California as a highway patrol officer for nearly
a year; and
   WHEREAS, Officer Sanders was married to Tondria Bryn Myrick on
October 8, 2004, and had five wonderful children, Trentten, John,
Silas, Savannah, and Elizabeth; and
   WHEREAS, Officer Sanders was killed in the line of duty on
December 15, 2008, when he was directing traffic at the site of a
traffic collision on eastbound State Highway Route 60, west of Azusa
Avenue in the city of Hacienda Heights. A subsequent collision
between two vehicles caused one of the vehicles to veer out of
control, striking Officer Sanders and causing major injuries. Officer
Sanders was airlifted to USC Medical Center in Los Angeles where he
succumbed to his injuries; and
   WHEREAS, Officer Sanders was a dedicated family man who loved his
wife and children and enjoyed traveling with his family to local
points of interest. Officer Sanders also loved watching and
participating in sports and athletic events, and enjoyed playing
poker and golf; and
   WHEREAS, Officer Sanders was admired for his faithfulness and
loyalty to family, friends, and work, his honesty and determination
in all aspects of his life, his dedication to community and
willingness to serve his community, and his kindness and quiet good
nature; and
   WHEREAS, In recognition of Officer Sanders' ultimate sacrifice for
the residents of this state, it is appropriate to dedicate a portion
of State Highway Route 60 in the County of Los Angeles in his
memory; now, therefore, be it
   Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby designates all of the
following in the County of Los Angeles as the CHP Officer Joseph P.
Sanders Memorial Highway:
   (a) The portion of State Highway Route 60 (SR-60) eastbound (mile
post marker 15.96) from Hacienda Boulevard to (mile post marker
20.44) Nogales Street and westbound from (mile post marker 20.44)
Nogales Street to (mile post marker 15.96) Hacienda Boulevard.
   (b) The portion of northbound Hacienda Boulevard to eastbound and
westbound SR-60, as well as the Hacienda Boulevard off ramp from
westbound SR-60.
   (c) The eastbound and westbound on ramps and off ramps for Azusa
Avenue and Fullerton Road.
   (d) The eastbound off ramp to Nogales Street and southbound
Nogales Street to eastbound and westbound SR-60; and be it further
   Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of
this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
