   Relative to Make a Difference Day.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   ACR 97, Eng. Make a Difference Day.
   This measure would designate October 23, 2010, and every 4th
Saturday of October thereafter, as Make a Difference Day.




   WHEREAS, Serious social problems and difficult economic times have
created exceptional challenges for many families and our nation; and

   WHEREAS, Through both existing organization and individual action,
Californians can take an active role in America's economic recovery
and improve their fellow citizens' lives through volunteer service;
and
   WHEREAS, Connecting with other people and working together through
volunteer service can bridge the differences that separate people
and help solve serious social conflicts; and
   WHEREAS, Ordinary individuals can do extraordinary things to touch
and enhance the lives of other people by giving where there is a
need, rebuilding what has been torn down, teaching where there is a
desire to learn, and inspiring those people who have lost hope; and
   WHEREAS, Volunteer service is an investment in the future we all
must share; and
   WHEREAS, President Barack Obama has proclaimed, "For as much as
government can do and must do, it is ultimately the faith and
determination of the American people upon which this nation relies";
and
   WHEREAS, Millions of people have joined to promote an annual
national day of volunteer service that celebrates and strengthens the
spirit of civic duty; now, therefore, be it
   Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
thereof concurring, That the Members of the California State
Legislature designate October 23, 2010, and every fourth Saturday of
October thereafter, as Make a Difference Day, and encourage
Californians to observe this day by connecting with friends, fellow
employees, relatives, and religious, scholastic, and civic groups to
engage in projects benefiting their community; and be it further
   Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of
this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
