Relative to Bike to School Day.

HR 100, as introduced, Boerner.

WHEREAS, Riding bicycles and electric bicycles to school is a viable and environmentally-conscious form of transportation to school and is an excellent recreational activity; and

WHEREAS, May is National Bike Month and is celebrated across the nation; and

WHEREAS, Hundreds of thousands of people will participate in the hundreds of bike month and bike day events in California, including nearly a hundred bike to school day events; and

WHEREAS, Many students in California bike to school and experience the freedoms and joys that come with traveling via bicycle to school; and

WHEREAS, Riding on California’s numerous scenic trails and roads provides health benefits to students in the state; and

WHEREAS, Many schoolaged Californians experienced the Tour of California race, which traveled across the length of the state, traversing through landmark locations such as Death Valley, Joshua Tree, and Lake Tahoe, to San Diego and many beaches along the California coast; and

WHEREAS, Increasing numbers of Californians, especially schoolaged children, are traveling on bikes and electric bikes and through ride sharing; and

WHEREAS, Bicycle-friendly communities and infrastructure are shown to improve children’s health, well-being, and quality of life, to boost their engagement with their environment, to reduce pollution and congestion, and to be a sustainable and environmentally conscious mode of transportation; and

WHEREAS, Biking allows students to experience mobility, freedom, and independence; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the members of the California State Assembly hereby recognize the day of May 17, 2024, as Bike to School Day; and be it further

Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
