BILL NUMBER: HR 31 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Daly AUGUST 31, 2015 Relative to Life Insurance Awareness Month. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST HOUSE OR SENATE RESOLUTIONS DO NOT CONTAIN A DIGEST WHEREAS, Life insurance is an essential part of a sound financial plan; and WHEREAS, Life insurance provides financial security for families in the event of a premature death by helping surviving family members to meet immediate and long-term financial obligations and objectives; and WHEREAS, Nearly 95 million Americans lack life insurance coverage needed to ensure a secure financial future for their loved ones; and WHEREAS, Each year, the life insurance industry pays $63,000,000,000 to beneficiaries, providing a source of financial relief and security to families that experience the loss of a loved one; and WHEREAS, Recent studies have found that when a premature death occurs, insufficient life insurance coverage on the part of the insured results in three-fourths of surviving family members having to take measures such as work additional jobs or longer hours, borrow money, withdraw money from savings and investment accounts, and, in too many cases, move to smaller, less expensive housing; and WHEREAS, Individuals, families, and businesses can benefit greatly from professional insurance and financial planning advice, including the assessment of their life insurance needs; and WHEREAS, The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, the Association of California Life and Health Insurance Companies, the American Council of Life Insurers, and a coalition representing hundreds of leading life insurance companies and organizations have designated September 2015 as Life Insurance Awareness Month, the goal of which is to make consumers more aware of their life insurance needs, seek professional advice, and take the actions necessary to achieve the financial security for their loved ones; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly recognizes and supports the goals and ideals of Life Insurance Awareness Month; and be it further Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly shall transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
