BILL NUMBER: SB 121 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Senator Fuller JANUARY 15, 2015 An act to add Section 17070.72 to the Education Code, relating to school facilities. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 121, as introduced, Fuller. School facilities: schoolsites on military bases. Existing law establishes a system of public elementary and secondary schools in this state, and provides for the funding of the construction of new school facilities and the modernization of existing facilities. Existing law requires the State Allocation Board to apportion certain state funds to eligible school districts for school facilities. Existing federal law provides for construction funding assistance for schoolsites that are located on United States military bases and that meet specified criteria. This bill would require the State Allocation Board to give priority to applications for certain state funds for projects on or near military installations that are eligible for specified federal school construction grants. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 17070.72 is added to the Education Code, to read: 17070.72. Notwithstanding subdivision (a) of Section 17070.70 and Section 17070.71, the board shall give priority to applications for funding under this chapter for projects on or near military installations that are eligible for United States Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment school construction grants.
