BILL NUMBER: SB 1286 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Senator La Malfa FEBRUARY 23, 2012 An act to amend Section 32015 of the Penal Code, relating to firearms. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 1286, as introduced, La Malfa. Firearms: handgun registry. Existing law requires the Department of Justice to maintain a roster listing handguns that are not unsafe that may be sold in this state. The department is authorized to charge licensed firearm manufacturers and persons who import into the state for sale, keep for sale, or offer or expose for sale, any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person in this state, an annual fee not exceeding the costs of preparing, publishing, and maintaining the roster, and the costs of research and development, report analysis, firearms storage, and other program infrastructure costs necessary to implement those provisions related to determining unsafe handguns. This bill would make a technical, nonsubstantive change to these provisions. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no.
