An act to add Section 716 to the Military and Veterans Code, relating to veterans.

SB 914, as amended, Umberg. Veterans: employment.
Existing law establishes the Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) and as part of its duties, requires it to increase awareness regarding professional licensing benefits available to veterans and their spouses. Existing law requires CalVet, in consultation with the Department of Consumer Affairs, to post information and resources regarding licensing benefits on their respective internet websites.
This bill would require CalVet CalVet, upon appropriation by the Legislature, to create and advertise an internet website, as specified, that matches veterans and their military skills and training with an employer, as provided.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 Section 716 is added to the Military and Veterans Code, to read:

716.
 (a) The Upon appropriation by the Legislature, the Department of Veterans Affairs shall create an internet website that allows government entities and private employers to post job openings for veterans.
(b) The department shall create and maintain a matching portal on the internet website where veterans can apply to be matched into certain technical careers. The internet website shall include employment openings for positions in the automotive, maritime, and trades sectors, with the intention of matching a veteran’s military training and skills with a job posted on the internet website.
(c) The department shall advertise the internet website to veterans and private industry employers at local veteran resource centers.
