Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer Memorial Highway.
This measure would designate the portion of Interstate 5 between Magic Mountain Parkway, at postmile R53.565, and Valencia Boulevard, at postmile R52.465, in the City of Santa Clarita in the County of Los Angeles as the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer Memorial Highway. The measure would also request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering the cost, to erect those signs.

WHEREAS, Of all the promises America offers, none is more elusive or precious than the right to be free from crime and violence; and
WHEREAS, Californians are indebted every day to our peace officers, and we pay special tribute to their bravery and dedication and share in their pain when one of their members is killed in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, The men and women of law enforcement have the unenviable task of guaranteeing the public’s safety, and it is as difficult and dangerous as it is important, as evidenced by the death, at 30 years of age, of Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, who was tragically shot on September 16, 2023, in the City of Palmdale, and ultimately succumbed to his injuries; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Clinkunbroomer faithfully served as a fourth-generation Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff, who followed in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, grandfather, and father, steadfastly dedicated to safeguarding the residents of the County of Los Angeles; and
WHEREAS, It is appropriate to recognize the hazardous work, serious responsibility, and strong commitment that Deputy Clinkunbroomer willingly accepted during his eight years as a law enforcement officer; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Clinkunbroomer is remembered as a dedicated son to his loving mother, Kim, and father, Mike, a devoted partner to the love of his life, his fiance Brittany, a dedicated brother to Chad and Katie, and grandson; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Clinkunbroomer is also remembered as a role model and respected leader who served as a field training officer, and as a man who committed his life, beliefs, and career to the County of Los Angeles and the safety of its residents; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby designates the portion of Interstate 5 between Magic Mountain Parkway, at postmile R53.565, and Valencia Boulevard, at postmile R52.465, in the City of Santa Clarita in the County of Los Angeles as the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer Memorial Highway; and be it further
Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested to determine the cost of appropriate signs consistent with the signing requirements for the state highway system showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the Director of Transportation and to the author for appropriate distribution.
