AN ACT CONCERNING AUDIOMETRIC SCREENINGS FOR STUDENTS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That subsection (b) of section 10-214 of the general statutes be amended to require (1) audiometric screenings for (A) students in grades kindergarten, one, three, five, seven, nine and eleven, (B) children attending a public preschool program, (C) students who are newly enrolled in a school and have not been screened during the previous twelve months, (D) students receiving special education and related services, (E) students referred by a teacher or other school personnel, (F) students who were referred for an audiometric screening during the previous year but who do not have a documented follow-up, (G) students who were absent during the audiometric screening, (H) students who are at greater risk for noise exposure, including, but not limited to, students participating in band or enrolled in a technical high school, (I) students who request an audiometric screening, and (J) students whose parents request an audiometric screening, and (2) students who cannot be screened to be referred for a complete medical and audiometric evaluation.

Statement of Purpose:

To improve identification of hearing loss among students.
