AN ACT CONCERNING POTENTIALLY POLITICALLY BIASED LEGAL ADVICE OF TOWN ATTORNEYS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That chapter 153 of the general statutes be amended to require that a chairman or officer of a town committee resign such position if such chairman or officer is paid to provide services as an attorney for such town or accepts a position as the town's attorney in which the attorney's legal duties could affect the town council, nonpartisan town offices, agencies, boards, commissions or authorities.
Statement of Purpose:
To reduce the potential for political bias that may affect legal advice provided by a town attorney.
