AN ACT CONCERNING POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That chapter 420b of the general statutes be amended to provide that any person who possesses or has under his or her control less than one ounce of a cannabis-type substance shall be fined five hundred dollars for a first violation, be fined one thousand dollars for a second violation and be subject to the penalties specified in subsection (c) of section 21a-279 of the general statutes for a third or subsequent violation.
Statement of Purpose:
To penalize a person who possesses less than one ounce of marijuana with a fine for a first or second violation rather than with a potential term of imprisonment.
