AN ACT RESTORING THE DEFINITION OF PUPILS OF RACIAL MINORITIES FOR PURPOSES OF SHEFF V. O'NEILL.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That section 10-264l of the general statutes be amended to repeal the exception that permits the Commissioner of Education to award an interdistrict magnet school grant if an interdistrict magnet school program is not in compliance with the enrollment requirement regarding the percentage of pupils of racial minorities, as defined in section 10-226a of the general statutes, if such program is in compliance with the provisions of the 2013 stipulation and order for Milo Sheff, et al. v. William A. O'Neill, et al.
Statement of Purpose:
To include Asians, Alaskan Natives, Native Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Asian Pacific Islanders back into the definition of pupils of racial minorities, for purposes of the interdistrict magnet school program and meeting the state's requirement under Milo Sheff, et al. v. William A. O'Neill, et al.
