AN ACT REPEALING THE REQUIREMENT THAT TOWNS ARE FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR PRESCHOOL PROGRAM TUITION PAYMENTS AT INTERDISTRICT MAGNET SCHOOLS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That sections 10-264l and 10-264o of the general statutes be amended to repeal the requirement that local and regional boards of education be responsible for paying any tuition charged for students enrolled in a preschool program offered at an interdistrict magnet school operated by a regional educational service center and that the state be financially responsible for such preschool program tuitions. To further amend sections 10-15 and 10-16 of the general statutes to clarify that the requirement that towns are to maintain public schools means kindergarten to grade twelve, inclusive, and attendance at a public school shall be at no cost to the parent or guardian of students enrolled in such grades.

Statement of Purpose:

To repeal the requirement that towns are responsible for paying preschool program tuition at interdistrict magnet schools and to require that regional education service centers pay for such preschool program tuitions.
