General Assembly

Proposed Bill No. 6212

January Session, 2011

LCO No. 1802

Referred to Committee on Transportation

Introduced by:

REP. REED, 102nd Dist.

REP. BERGER, 73rd Dist.

AN ACT REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF THE SURETY BOND FURNISHED BY APPLICANTS FOR A NEW OR USED CAR DEALER'S LICENSE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That subdivision (2) of subsection (b) of section 14-52 of the general statutes be amended to reduce the surety bond that applicants for a new car dealer's or a used car dealer's license are required to furnish from fifty thousand dollars to twenty thousand dollars.

Statement of Purpose:

To repeal the increase in the amount of the surety bond made by public act 10-110. The increase adds approximately five hundred dollars to the amount of the yearly payment and is a major hardship for the little guys who mostly repair cars and occasionally sell one.
