AN ACT PROHIBITING THE COLLECTION OF AN ADDITIONAL FEE FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR'S LICENSE OR IDENTITY CARD INDICATING A PERSON'S STATUS AS A VETERAN.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That sections 14-36h and 14-50a of the general statutes be amended to prohibit the Department of Motor Vehicles from charging a veteran a thirty-dollar fee for a duplicate license when such veteran requests a motor vehicle operator's license or identity card reflecting his or her status as a veteran prior to the date on which the Department of Motor Vehicles notifies such veteran of the need to renew a previously issued motor vehicle operator's license or identity card.

Statement of Purpose:

To allow a veteran to obtain a motor vehicle operator's license or identity card reflecting his or her status as a veteran at any time, without additional charge.
