AN ACT CONCERNING THE POSSESSIONS OF DECEASED TENANTS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That section 47a-11d of the general statutes be amended to: (1) Provide that a landlord may contact a deceased tenant's emergency contact or next of kin to initiate the process of recovering the deceased tenant's personal possessions from the leased unit; and (2) create a judicial process that allows a landlord to remove the personal possessions of a deceased tenant after providing timely notice of the intended action to such tenant's emergency contact or next of kin.
Statement of Purpose:
To permit a landlord to take specific actions to remove a deceased tenant's belongings and reclaim possession of the unit after the landlord has provided timely notice of the intended action to the deceased tenant's emergency contact or next of kin.
