AN ACT CONCERNING BAIL AMOUNTS SET BY JUDGES.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That chapter 960 of the general statutes be amended to prohibit a judge, absent good cause, from setting a bail amount in excess of five thousand dollars in the case of a person charged only with a misdemeanor.
Statement of Purpose:
To ensure that bail is not abused and that an accused's ability to assist in the preparation of his or her own defense is not unnecessarily interfered with.
