148th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 23

COMMENDING THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY PROFESSORS.



WHEREAS, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) was founded in 1915 and for one hundred years has helped to shape American higher education; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the AAUP is to advance academic freedom and shared governance; to define fundamental professional values and standards for higher education; to promote the economic security of faculty, academic professionals, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and all those engaged in teaching and research in higher education; to help the higher education community organize to make our goals a reality; and to ensure higher education's contribution to the common good; and

WHEREAS, academic freedom and the related principles of shared governance and tenure have helped to make American higher education great and have benefited our society by establishing conditions in which teaching, learning and research flourish; and

WHEREAS, the AAUP's centennial provides an opportunity to recognize the organization's central role in developing and promulgating the standards that govern the academic profession.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 148th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the American Association of University Professors is congratulated on the celebration of its centennial year and commended on the vital role it has played in American higher education.


SYNOPSIS

This concurrent resolution commends the American Association of University Professors on the vital role it has played in advancing American higher education.
