RECOGNIZING WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21, 2012 IS "KICK BUTTS DAY." |
WHEREAS, Kick Butts Day, organized by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and sponsored by the United Health Foundation, is an annual celebration of youth leadership and activism in the fight against tobacco use; and
WHEREAS, while great progress has been made in reducing youth smoking, youth tobacco use remains a "pediatric epidemic" requiring urgent action; and
WHEREAS, in Delaware, tobacco use claims 1,100 lives and costs $284 million in health care bills each year; and
WHEREAS, 14.9% of the State of Delaware's high school students smoke; and
WHEREAS, on March 21, the Police Athletic League of Delaware and several local schools will hold health fairs and educational events to teach participants about the ingredients in a cigarette and real life consequences of smoking;
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 146th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that March 21, 2012 is recognized as "Kick Butts Day" and all citizens of the State of Delaware are encouraged to join with the Police Athletic League of Delaware, local schools, and other community groups across the nation in encouraging youth to lead and win the fight against tobacco use.
