HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 40 |
RECOGNIZING THE WEEK OF APRIL 8-14, 2012 AS "NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK". |
WHEREAS, libraries are part of the American Dream, as places of opportunity and lifelong learning; and
WHEREAS, libraries work to meet the changing needs of their users, including building collections, expanding outreach services, and increasing programming; and
WHEREAS, our nation's libraries provide a forum for diverse ideas and points of view that help us better understand each other and ourselves; and
WHEREAS, Delaware has adopted the national "Geek the Library" campaign to promote libraries as the perfect place for individuals to explore their interests and passions – the things they "geek"; and
WHEREAS, librarians design and offer programs to meet their community's economic needs, providing residents with resume writing classes, interviewing workshops and job seeking resources; and
WHEREAS, job centers in four of our public libraries (Wilmington, Dover, Georgetown and Seaford) have partnered with educational, labor and business partners to help unemployed and underemployed Delawareans find jobs; and
WHEREAS, librarians are trained professionals, helping people of all ages and backgrounds find and interpret the information they need to live, learn and work in a challenging economy; and
WHEREAS, Delaware library patrons now have access to a statewide Delaware Library Catalog, electronic books, wireless Internet access, and continuously improving library technology resources; and
WHEREAS, the State and its residents are making significant investments in our libraries including new or renovated libraries throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are celebrating National Library Week;
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 146th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the week of April 8-14, 2012, is recognized as "National Library Week" in Delaware.
