149th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 18

COMMENDING THE POLICE UNITY TOUR - DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, the Police Unity Tour raises awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, the secondary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum; and

WHEREAS, beginning in 1997 with 18 riders, the first Police Unity Tour took place as a four day fundraising bicycle ride from Florham Park, NJ to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, the event has since grown dramatically, and 2,200 riders participated in 2016; and

WHEREAS, the 2016 event resulted in a $2.3 million donation to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, bringing the total donations to $20 million; and

WHEREAS, Delaware is part of Chapter XI of the organization, riding out of the Philadelphia area on May 9th, 2017, biking approximately 260 miles, and arriving in Washing, D.C. on May 12th, 2017; and

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 149th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, that the Members do hereby commend the participants of Police Unity Tour- Delaware for honoring fallen officers.

SYNOPSIS

This resolution commends the Police Unity Tour and its participants for honoring law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
