HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 30

HONORING VETERANS DAY IN DELAWARE ON NOVEMBER 11, 2024.

WHEREAS, Veterans Day will honor approximately 70,000 veterans in Delaware, recognizing their unwavering commitment and service to our country and state; and

WHEREAS, an estimated 10% of the adult population in Delaware are veterans; and

WHEREAS, fighting in World War I officially came to an end on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, and 106 years later, those who serve our nation continue to be honored every November; and

WHEREAS, in 1968, Congress signed the Uniform Holiday Bill to ensure that federal holidays, including Veterans Day, would be celebrated on a Monday to promote travel, family activities, and boost the economy; and

WHEREAS, veterans have demonstrated extraordinary valor, dedication, and sacrifice, serving in various branches of the United States Military including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard; and

WHEREAS, the contributions of Delaware veterans span numerous conflicts and wars, including Colonial Wars, The Revolutionary War, The War of 1812, The Mexican War, World War I, World War II, The Korean War, The Vietnam War, and The Gulf War and The Global War on Terrorism; and

WHEREAS, veterans bring valuable skills, leadership, and discipline to our communities, enriching the economic, social, and cultural fabric of Delaware; and

WHEREAS, the families of veterans have also made tremendous sacrifices, providing endless support to their loved ones during their service and beyond; and

WHEREAS, the Delaware Veterans Parade is a heartfelt tribute to the men and women who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation, capturing the essence of gratitude, respect, and community pride; and

WHEREAS, recognizing Veterans Day in Delaware strengthens the bond between veterans and the civilian population, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of their service.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that November 11, 2024 is recognized as Veterans Day in Delaware.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the citizens of Delaware are encouraged to participate in ceremonies and activities that honor and support our veterans, ensuring their stories and sacrifices are never forgotten.
