HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 42
DESIGNATING MARCH 28, 2024 AS OPENING DAY FOR YOUTH BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL PLAYERS.
WHEREAS, on March 28 th the Philadelphia Phillies will host their National League East division rival Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park for opening day of the 2024 Major League Baseball regular season; and
WHEREAS, baseball is considered Americas “national pastime” since its inception in the early 1800s; and
WHEREAS, Delaware is filled with local youth baseball and softball programs who will be celebrating their opening day in the coming weeks; and
WHEREAS, there are approximately two million boys and girls that play youth baseball and softball, worldwide, with ages ranging from 4 to 16; and
WHEREAS, Little League created the Challenger Division in 1989 which is an adaptive baseball program for individuals with physical disabilities and intellectual challenges, and other youth sports programs practicing inclusion; and
WHEREAS, baseball opening day brings along sunshine, hotdogs, and Crackerjacks for all to enjoy.
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 152 nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, that March 28, 2024, shall be known as Opening Day which celebrates and encourages the youth to partake in local baseball and softball programs throughout the State of Delaware.

This House Resolution designates March 28, 2024 as opening day for youth baseball and softball players.
