DELAWARE STATE SENATE
153rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 13
RECOGNIZING AND CELEBRATING THE LUNAR NEW YEAR 2025.
WHEREAS, January 29, 2025, begins the celebration of Lunar New Year (also referred to as the Chinese New Year) and festivities will continue through February 12, 2025, following the lunar cycle; and
WHEREAS, 2025 is the Year of the Snake, the sixth animal in the Chinese zodiac, symbolizing the harvest, procreation, spirituality, good fortune, and cunning; and
WHEREAS, the Lunar New Year is a time to reunite with family, recognize traditions, honor ancestors, celebrate the past year, and welcome good luck and prosperity for the coming year; and
WHEREAS, the celebration of Lunar New Year ends with the Lantern Festival, characterized by lion and dragon dances, parades, fireworks, and colorful lanterns; and
WHEREAS, the Lunar New Year is celebrated not just by Chinese people, but is widely observed by many Asian communities all around the world, including those of Korean, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Filipino, Indonesian, and other Asian and Pacific Islander heritage, each with their own rich traditions and customs; and
WHEREAS, Delaware’s Asian American community is an integral piece of the State’s rich cultural tapestry; and
WHEREAS, driven by the advocacy and input of civic and business leaders from Delaware’s Asian American community, the State has taken strides to increase inclusion and representation of Asian American and Pacific Islanders in both state government and the educational curriculum; and
WHEREAS, the General Assembly acknowledges the significance of Lunar New Year as an opportunity to celebrate diversity, promote inclusivity, and honor the cultural heritage of Delaware’s Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the General Assembly recognizes and celebrates the Lunar New Year and extends best wishes for health, happiness, and prosperity to all who observe this festive occasion.
SYNOPSIS
This resolution recognizes and celebrates the Lunar New Year 2025.
