SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 23

COMMENDING THE CLASS OF 2008-2009 EAGLE SCOUTS FOR HAVING ATTAINED THE HIGHEST RANK ONE CAN EARN IN THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA



WHEREAS, to earn this distinct honor, a young man must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor preparedness, as well as advance through the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life; and

WHEREAS, to qualify for the rank of Eagle Scout, a young man must earn twenty-one Merit Badges, including First Aid, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Communications, Personal Fitness, Emergency Preparedness/Lifesaving, Environmental Sciences, Personal Management, Swimming/Hiking/Camping; and

WHEREAS, a young man's achievement of Eagle Scout carries with it a special significance both within Scouting and to the world beyond as he enters higher education, business or industry, and the greater community; and

WHEREAS, only two percent of the young men who join Boy Scouts of America become Eagle Scouts; and

WHEREAS, the following young men have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, joining the likes of former President Gerald Ford, Neil Armstrong, Captain James Lovell, Hank Aaron, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Steven Spielberg:

NOW THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 145th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the class of 2008-2009 Eagle Scouts are hereby extended congratulations on attaining the highest rank in the world of Scouting, and our best wishes in their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that upon passage, a copy of this Resolution shall be given to each Eagle Scout.


SYNOPSIS

This Resolution honors the class of 2008-2009 Eagle Scouts for having attained the highest rank one can earn in the Boy Scouts of America.
