DELAWARE STATE SENATE

149th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 62

CELEBRATING TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK.

WHEREAS, the State of Delaware employs more than 8,900 teachers; and

WHEREAS, teachers mold children through guidance and education; and

WHEREAS, teachers encounter students of widely differing backgrounds and who face a myriad of daily challenges; and

WHEREAS, the future of the State of Delaware and the United States depends on providing quality education to all students, regardless of background or challenges; and

WHEREAS, teachers spend untold hours and resources preparing lessons, evaluating progress, counseling and coaching students, educating, and performing service to our community; and

WHEREAS, teachers work tirelessly to open children’s minds to ideas, knowledge, and dreams; and

WHEREAS, teachers fill roles as listeners, explorers, role models, motivators, and mentors; and

WHEREAS, teachers continue to influence students long after school days are completed; and

WHEREAS, teachers are to be afforded high public esteem, reflecting the value our community places on public education; and

WHEREAS, it is paramount that teachers be recognized for their dedication and commitment to educating our students.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the 149th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, recognizes May 7-11, 2018 as National Teacher Appreciation Week;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate expresses its gratitude for the indefatigable and untiring efforts and actions of Delaware teachers in educating approximately 137,000 Delaware students.

SYNOPSIS

This resolution declares the week of May 7-11, 2018 as National Teacher Appreciation Week.
