DECLARING THAT THE NEW CASTLE DIVISION OF MOTOR VEHICLES BE NAMED THE KAREN L. JOHNSON DIVISION OF MOTOR VEHICLES. |
WHEREAS, Karen L. Johnson initially came to Delaware to begin her legal career, working for the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, then worked for the law firm of Richards, Layton, & Finger; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson served the City of Wilmington as an Assistant City Solicitor, and later the Director of Public Safety; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson began her career with the State of Delaware in 1993 as the Secretary of Public Safety, appointed by Governor Tom Carper, which then oversaw the Division of Motor Vehicles; and
WHEREAS, under her leadership, Ms. Johnson fundamentally shifted the direction of the personnel at the Division of Motor Vehicles, gearing the Division towards improving customer service; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson worked extensively to expand the Division of Motor Vehicles' cooperation with other state agencies in implementing various programs, specifically the Enhanced Vehicle Emissions Program; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson was integral in the site planning, funding and details for the new Division of Motor Vehicles facility now located in New Castle; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson was a dedicated public servant, even in her shortened time here, who lived a groundbreaking and prolific life.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 148th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, with the approval of the Governor, that the New Castle Division of Motor Vehicles be named "The Karen L. Johnson Division of Motor Vehicles."
