147th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 11

RECOGNIZING THE DANIEL BOONE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL "GREEN TEAM"



WHEREAS, the pursuit of alternative energy in this country is recognized as being a critical goal to protect and preserve our environment; and

WHEREAS, various organizations both public and private have stepped up to the challenge of pursuing alternative energy sources; and

WHEREAS, a group of students from the Algae Biodiesel Bioreactor Research Group at the Daniel Boone Senior High School in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania has undertaken extensive research exploring the use of algae as a renewable energy resource; and

WHEREAS, this group of students, known as the "Green Team," constructed an algae bioreactor, grew algae, harvested the algae, extracted the algae lipid oil, and successfully converted it to biodiesel; and

WHEREAS, the "Green Team" is very passionate about helping to preserve the environment and very motivated in their efforts to spread the word about using algae as an environmentally friendly, renewable alternate energy resource; and

WHEREAS, the "Green Team" recently won the Lexus Eco Air & Climate Challenge and has been invited to compete in the Lexus Eco Final Challenge; and

WHEREAS The Lexus Eco Final Challenge requires the participants to spread the word about their environmental topic beyond their local community to the State and National levels;

WHEREAS, the "Green Team" will be traveling to Washington, D.C., this month to present its finding to the staff of Delaware's U.S. Senator Chris Coons;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 147th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that we hereby recognize and encourage the research efforts of the "Green Team" members including Ian Kurtz, Elizabeth Levy, Stephanie Sievers, Megan Jolivette, John Dugan, Courtney Vidovich, Alex Doyle, Noah Coats, and Dan Downs and wish them well in the Lexus Eco Final Challenge.


SYNOPSIS

The Resolution recognizes the research efforts of students participating in the "Green Team" at the Daniel Boone Senior High School.
