SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 16 |
HONORING JUDGE EDWARD G. DAVIS UPON HIS RETIREMENT FOLLOWING A DISTINGUISHED 36-YEAR CAREER AS A JUSTICE OF THE PEACE. |
WHEREAS, at age 35, Edward G. Davis of Sussex County was named a Justice of the Peace by Governor Sherman W. Tribbitt in 1974, and has since been reappointed seven times by five governors of both parties; and
WHEREAS, Ed's value to the court system became readily apparent—not simply as a justice of the peace, but as a person with both a vision of what the courts could and should be, and the ability to present that vision in a clear, common sense way to members of the General Assembly, a fact that led the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to designate Ed to serve as the court system's legislative liaison; and
WHEREAS, Ed has excelled in that role and has also been responsible for a large and impressive body of legislation that has brought great improvements to the way the courts have carried out their mission, all of which has been of great service to the citizens of Delaware; and
WHEREAS, as an ardent hunter and sometime commercial fisherman, Ed has been an activist for sensible fishing rights and hunting regulations for all Delawareans; and
WHEREAS, Ed is greatly respected and beloved by his colleagues on the bench and by legislators for his extensive learning, his wisdom, his sense of humor and his dedication to the people of the First State;
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the
Senate of the 145th General Assembly of the State of
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Judge Davis upon its passage.
