145th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 7

RECOGNIZING THE WEEK OF JANUARY 25, 2009, THROUGH JANUARY 31, 2009, AS NURSE ANESTHETISTS WEEK.

WHEREAS, nurse anesthetists have been providing high-quality anesthesia care for more than 100 years and were the first nursing specialty group in the United States; and

WHEREAS, these registered nurses have all completed graduate level education in a nationally accredited program of nurse anesthesia and received a master's degree upon completion of the rigorous academic and clinical curriculum; and

WHEREAS, after graduation these nurses must pass a national certifying examination; and

WHEREAS, graduates who successfully pass the national certifying examination may use the title Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA); and

WHEREAS, CRNAs practice in every setting in which anesthesia is delivered, including traditional hospital surgical suites, obstetrical delivery rooms, physician's offices, ambulatory surgical centers, and the medical facilities of the U.S. military, Veteran's Administration and Public Health Service; and

WHEREAS, the week of January 25^th to January 31^st has been designated as National Nurse Anesthetists Week; and

WHEREAS, the General Assembly desires to formally recognize the important role of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists in providing quality healthcare to the citizens of this State.

NOW THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 145^th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that the period of January 25, 2009 through January 31, 2009, be recognized and designated as Nurse Anesthetists Week.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitably prepared copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Governor of the State of Delaware.
